Artist’s residence restyle
This was a wildly unique project. One professional artist + 3 homes. The mission? Restyle all of them using existing furnishings, and move any and all of the owner’s artwork to showcase it best for sale.
It ended up starting with a massive re-organization component, as most occupied homes do. Then we got to the fun stuff - finding the right placement for her amazing collection of art and collectibles from all over the world.
Before: Main living room in one of the homes, an Airbnb. The art and upholstery competed and the space felt uncomfortable, and out of balance
After: This is the main living space in one of the homes. The heavily patterned couch needed art that would help balance it, and create some calm in this busy, whimsical space
Before: This corner of the dining room served as a charging station for Airbnb guests. But it felt like an afterthought, and needed intention
After: This amazing piece of one of Pittsburgh's most famous icons was hidden by a back door. We brought it into the dining room of the Airbnb, one of the first things guests would see when they entered the home. The records and Pearsall table hide the cords at the charging station on the table.
Before: The dining room didn't have a clear sense of style. Used as a flexible space, it often just ended up feeling unfinished
After: Pulling in both red paintings add much needed color, and the space feels elevated, and complete
Before: Entries are natural landing places for clutter, so they need a plan for it. This piece of art is too large, too high up on the wall, and adds too much visual weight when entering the home
After: The artist had a few pieces of black and white photography and African art that didn't mix in well with the large scale modern wood paintings, but felt right at home in the entry, especially on the existing paint color. The lighter weight of these pieces makes for an easier transition into the foyer of the home
After: Found this beauty by the artist's mother down in the home gym. It looks perfect on this wall that transitions from the outdoor pool into the sunroom, and the colors blend beautifully with the bottles
Before: Re-painting was not initially on the table, but we did get to do three rooms in the primary residence. I took inspiration from the foyer wall color, and went with strong, rich hues, to match the vibrance of the artwork
